The Ultimate Guide to Lash Extension Aftercare

    May 5, 2026 4 min read

    Why Aftercare Matters

You've just left the studio with a gorgeous, fresh set of lashes. They look perfect, and you feel amazing. But how do you keep them looking that way? Proper aftercare is the secret to long-lasting, healthy lash extensions.

    The First 24 Hours

While modern lash adhesives cure very quickly, it's still best practice to be gentle during the first 24 hours. Avoid extreme heat, steam rooms, and crying if you can help it! You can wash them, but be gentle.

    Daily Cleansing is Non-Negotiable

The biggest myth in the lash world is that getting them wet makes them fall out. This is 100% false! In fact, NOT washing your lashes leads to buildup of natural oils, dead skin cells, and makeup residue, which breaks down the lash adhesive prematurely.

    How to wash:

    • Use a lash-safe foaming cleanser (oil-free).
    • Gently work the cleanser into your lash line using a soft cleansing brush.
    • Rinse thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water.
    • Pat dry gently with a lint-free towel or fan them dry.

    Brush Them Daily

Keep your lashes fluffy and perfectly separated by brushing them daily with a clean spoolie wand. Only brush them when they are dry, and support the base of your lashes with your finger to avoid tugging.

    Things to Avoid

    • Oil-based products: Oil breaks down the lash adhesive. Check your makeup removers, moisturizers, and eye creams.
    • Mascara: You shouldn't need it, and it's notoriously difficult to remove from extensions without damaging them.
    • Friction: Try to sleep on your back, and avoid rubbing your eyes.
